Theme:

The Surface Ocean Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) international research initiative aims to achieve quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and the atmosphere and to understand how this coupled system affects and is affected by climate and environmental change. The three SOLAS foci are:

  • FOCUS 1: Biogeochemical Interactions and Feedbacks between Ocean and Atmosphere
  • FOCUS 2: Exchange Processes at the Air-Sea Interface and Role of Transport and Transformation in Atmospheric and Oceanic Boundary Layers
  • FOCUS 3: Air-Sea Flux of CO2 and Other Long-Lived Radiatively-Active Gases (Joint SOLAS-IMBER Carbon Group)

Scientists working in physical, chemical and/or biological disciplines related to SOLAS research are encouraged to participate in this meeting through poster presentations.

Programme:

Following the successful conference held in Halifax in October 2004, a similar format for the programme is proposed:
*Morning plenary talks given by invited speakers, addressing science of the three SOLAS foci.
*Afternoon poster sessions
*Afternoon planning and synthesis sessions on selected topics. To suggest topics for these sessions, click here.
